Houston Chamber Choir, Robert Simpson, Artistic Director and Founder

Saint Luke’s Parish in Darien will host a performance by the nationally acclaimed Houston Chamber Choir in the Church on Saturday, April 14, at 7 p.m.

The public is invited to this musical treat, and proceeds from a free-will offering will support the Parish music program. The event will take place in the church, located at 1864 Post Road, at the corner of Rings End Road.

Spanning works from the Renaissance to the present day, the musicians of the Houston Chamber Choir will be showcased in three commissions including one world premiere and the Fest-und Gedenkprüche (Festival and Commemorative Sentences) by Johannes Brahms. The concert is part of a Northeast tour including performances at Trinity Church Wall Street in New York City and at Yale University.

The concert title, A Dome of Many-Coloured Glass, is taken from a new work composed by Dominick DiOrio that he dedicated to the Houston Chamber Choir. The composition is set to the texts of American poet Amy Lowell and is scored for chorus, soprano soloist and marimba. The concert will include portions of two other works commissioned by the Houston Chamber Choir: Messages to Myself by composer Christopher Theofanidis, and The Blue Estuaries by Houston composer David Ashley White, Director of the Moores School of Music at the University of Houston.
