Wethersfield Historical Society Memorial Day Celebration
Saturday, May 25, 2013
Keeney Memorial Cultural Center at 200 Main Street, Wethersfield
9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Free admission, free parking.
Celebrate a traditional Memorial Day in the heart of Old Wethersfield! Revolutionary War reenactors and horses from the Second Continental Light Dragoons, Sheldon’s Horse (founded in Wethersfield in 1776) and Doughty’s Artillery will be encamped at the Keeney Center on Saturday morning, May 26th. They will participate in the Town’s time-honored Memorial Day Parade at 9 a.m. and then return to the grounds of the Keeney Center. While Sheldon’s Horse patrols the town and presents mounted and dismounted military demonstrations, Doughty’s Artillery will fire the cannon in salute of all of Wethersfield’s veterans, and will later conduct artillery demonstrations and children’s drills. The Keeney Memorial Cultural Center will be open free of charge for visitors to enjoy the historical exhibits, including Love Letters and Uniforms: Wethersfield During the Civil War, the award-winning Legendary People, Ordinary Lives, and a special exhibit in honor of all of the Wethersfield Veterans who have served our country for the past 379 years. The historical society’s Hurlbut-Dunham House next to the Keeney Center will also be open for free tours from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Don’t miss the charming shops and restaurants along Main Street!
