Culture Connect Featured Event
1. Over 65 vendors and organizations will have booths on a variety of topics. Attendees will have the opportunity to learn how to cut their heating/air conditioning costs, and about modern technologies including, solar, wind, geothermal, fuel cells, biodiesel, energy efficient furnaces, alternative heating sources, and different automotive technologes including flex fuel and hybrid cars. We will have speakers, including Senator John Fonfara, a DEP representative, and Adam Ney from 4Elements Group and Managing Director of AuctorVerno, LLC.
2. Workshops will take place on a variety of topics, including: a. "Saving Energy & Saving Money" by Laurel Kohl, Energy Technical Specialist for Education and Training at The Institute for Sustainable Energy at Eastern CT State University. b. "Green Cleaning" by Sarah Uhl, Environmental Health Coordinator for Clean Water Action. c. "What's Toxic, What's Not" by Dr. Gary Ginsberg, Toxicology Expert, Consumer Expert, Radio personality, and author of What’s Toxic, What’s Not. d. “Solar PhotoVoltaic Systems”, and “CT Clean Energy Fund Rebate and CT Solar Leasing Programs” by Gordon Schies. e. Wethersfield Board of Education will have a workshop on the proposed renovations to the high school and Hamner elementary school.
3. Wethersfield school students will do the following: a. High School Technology Department will have a booth focusing on the different types of transportation, including hybrid, electric, etc. b. High School Green Eagles will have a booth on recycling CFL's and electronics. c. Middle School Technology Department will have a booth on solar cars. d. Summer school programs, 2007 “Growing Up Green” (grades 4-10) will have a booth on what they learned about going green. e. Architect will have a booth on proposed renovations of Hamner School and the High School, where they plan to incorporate green technology. Tours of the high school will be given.
4. Door prize giveaways will take place throughout the day, the top prize so far being 100 gallons of free heating oil from Citizen’s Oil Co-Op.
5. PROSHRED will be onsite to shred up to 4 boxes of personal documents per person.
6. TwigTek will be onsite to collect old cell phones, MP3 players, external hard drives, and digital cameras for recycling.
7. CT Transit will be there with their hydrogen fuel cell bus and explain how the technology works.
8. Lynch Toyota is bringing a Prius and a Camry hybrid and Parsons Chevrolet is bringing a Malibu and Tahoe hybrid for viewing and possible purchase.
