Governor and Mrs. Malloy Honor Hill-Stead Museum’s Sunken Garden Poetry Festival

Governor and Mrs. Dannel P. Malloy will host a celebration of Hill-Stead’s renowned festival at their home in support of the museum’s poetry programs, which serve students and adults throughout the state.  Former Connecticut Poet Laureate Marilyn Nelson and international best-selling author Frank Delaney will celebrate 20 years of Festival readings by major American poets by sharing selections from Sunken Garden Poetry: 1992-2011.  A Chancellor of the Academy of American Poets, Marilyn Nelson is the recipient of numerous literary awards, including the prestigious Frost Medal from the Poetry Society of America. Award-winning writer, broadcaster and journalist, Frank Delaney also created and hosted the highly popular BBC radio show “Poetry Please.”

All proceeds will support Hill-Stead’s Sunken Garden Poetry programs, including the Fresh Voices Competition for Connecticut high school students, Hill-Stead/Hartford Poetry Outreach workshops for underserved Hartford public school students, and the new Connecticut Young Poets Day, which presents winners of eight Connecticut poetry programs on opening night of the Festival.
