A TRIP TO THE MOON: A landmark event: the hand painted color version of Melies’ legendary A Trip To The Moon, unseen for 109 years until its glorious new restoration. In the first outer space adventure in the history of cinema, six members of the Astronomers’ Club set off on an expedition to the moon, encounter the Selenites, flee their king and return home to a triumphant parade.
“Surely a cinematic highlight of the year, maybe the century.”
THE EXTRAORDINARY VOYAGE:
This fascinating documentary chronicling the restoration of Melies’
A Trip to the Moon
to its original 1902 colors. Film archivists Serge Bromberg and Eric Lange acquired a damaged print in 1999, digitized the film and waited eight years for the technology to become available to access those digitized images.
