Culture Connect Featured Event
reception on Tuesday, Tuesday, April 3, 5-7PM
Forrest Bailey’s paintings includes landscapes, and figurative works that narrate political and social commentaries. Bailey’s extensive knowledge of art history is seen throughout this body of work where Renaissance, Impressionist, Cubist, Realist and Regionalist details are employed. “Red Rock” is a vibrant composition that emphasizes the abstract qualities of color and shape while retaining a perceptual specificity of place. The closely cropped rock face consumes the frame offering a pictorial sense of monumentality.
Bailey worked as an art conservator for over 25 years and received an M.A. from the University of Iowa as well as an M.A. and M.F.A. from Michigan State University. He taught at both institutions as well as at the University of Minnesota/Duluth.
