Culture Connect Featured Event
Classic Brass, a British style brass band directed by Adam Crowe, will present a concert at 2:30 p.m., Saturday, 3 November 2012, in Shafer Auditorium, corner of Windham and Valley Streets on the Eastern Connecticut State University campus in downtown Willimantic. The concert is presented by the Department of Performing Arts at ECSU. Admission to the concert is free.
Featured on the program is the world premiere performance of Somers’ Heart, an original composition for British brass band by David Maker, founder of the Classic Brass band and emeritus faculty member of the Music Department at the University of Connecticut. Also featured is Thomas Brown, performing the cornet solo in Herman Bellstedt’s Napoli, accompanied by Classic Brass. Brown is principal trumpet with the United States Coast Guard Band. Also included on the program, and performed by Classic Brass, are works by Ludwig van Beethoven, William Byrd, John Williams and George Gershwin.
