On June 29 at 4:00pm, more than 300 girls and women, ranging in age from 6-35 will join forces on the stage of Fair Haven School's auditorium to perform The Elm City Girls' Choir's greatest hits of the past two decades. The choir's 20th Anniversary Concert will feature current members as well as the Saecula Women's Choir, a new ensemble for alumnae. Graduates of the choir from the past two decades will be traveling to New Haven from all across the country to be a part of the largest reunion in the organization's history. Repertoire will include classical choral music, folk songs from around the world, jazz and pop arrangements, spirituals, patriotic songs, and gospel selections.
The nationally-renowned Elm City Girls' Choir is New England's premier girls' choral ensemble, and its members represent over 250 schools and 50 towns throughout Connecticut. Highlights of the past 20 years include appearances at Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Walt Disney World, concert tours to 16 states and five foreign countries, a CD recording with the Yale Whiffenpoofs, and a performance with Diana Ross at the finals of the U.S. Open Tennis Tournament. The choir has collaborated with ensembles including the New York Virtuoso Singers, Yale Schola Cantorum, Yale Glee Club and Camerata, Trinity Choir of Men and Boys, American Boychoir, CONCORA, New York City Ballet, Boston Philharmonic, New Haven Symphony, and Moscow State Orchestra. ECGC is the flagship ensemble of the United Girls' Choir network, a program which offers musical training and performance opportunities to over 550 talented singers, ages 6-18, in 25 local choirs throughout Connecticut.
