SOUND HALL and Interdisciplinary Performance Studies at Yale (IPSY) present
WORKCENTER’S OPEN PROGRAM YALE RESIDENCY: February 20 – March 3, 2013
New Haven, CT, February 15, 2013 – SOUND HALL, along with the Interdisciplinary Performance Studies at Yale (IPSY), will present a unique and exciting spring program of public events exploring the role of art in daily life. The program will feature performances, workshops, public meetings and a symposium exploring the poetics of encounter. IPSY is partnering with the Eli Whitney Museum, INTERCAMBIO, Sound Hall, People’s Arts Collective of New Haven, as well as local artists and activists, to create dialogue and exchange between diverse New Haven communities.
The Workcenter’s Open Program centers on the very essence of theatre: the moment of meaningful contact between human beings. The group's performances range from the raucous to the subtle and are constantly and undeniably infectious. The current works juxtapose the poetry of Allen Ginsberg, traditional songs from the south of the United States, and original compositions, through which the actors of the Open Program transform the poetic word into living action. André Gregory (Alice in Wonderland, My Dinner with André) writes: “I have not been able to get this beautiful work out of my head. The work is original, unique, passionate and filled with life. With the exception of Peter Brook's work, it's the only work I've truly loved in the last thirty years.” All events are free and open to the public. Seating is limited. RSVP for your seat.
