CitySingers of Hartford announces A Chorus of Peace, which will bring together music, visual art and dance in a unique statement for peace.
The program will benefit the relief organization Artists for World Peace. The 15th c. chanson “L’homme Armé” ("The Armed Man"), in both a medieval setting by Antoine Busnois and a contemporary setting by Karl Jenkins, and various settings of Dona nobis pacem, or “Give us peace,” set images of armed defense against images of peace. Other poetic texts in settings by Guilio Caccini, Randall Stroope, Hildegard von Bingen, Morten Lauridsen and Jan Sibelius are inspired by a hope for peace.
Augmenting the choral and instrumental music will be the African choreography of Sankofa Kuumba Dance Ensemble, wearing the International Peace Belt, which is made up of coins and gemstones from 165 countries and created by Artists for World Peace, a non-profit organization whose mission is to spread peace by supporting humanitarian projects in places where the Peace Belt travels. Together, we offer these performances as a symbol of peace for all.
