CPBN Media Lab
The Connecticut Public Broadcasting Network (CPBN) Media Lab’s goal is to create 21st century journalists.
The CPBN Media Lab is a service of the Connecticut Public Broadcasting Network (CPBN), parent company of Connecticut Public Television (CPTV) and Connecticut Public Radio (WNPR)
Since 2007, the CPBN Media Lab has provided real world technical and journalism training for over 500 Connecticut students, from undergraduate and postgraduate college students in our internship program and through seminars, workshops and Media 101 and Young Entrepreneur courses for high school students and the Future Producers Academy and Media is Magic for middle school students.
The CPBN Media Lab has produced a multi-part web original series on metal bats in Little League baseball, Foul Play; the history, facts and the promise of young voters participating in the democratic process, Youth Vote; and the history and effects of political corruption in Connecticut, Corrupticut. Online features include profiles of the Newington Children's Theatre Company and the UConn Pep Band. The Media Lab also completed a documentary airing on the Connecticut Sports Network (CTSN) about four Connecticut based high school teams and their efforts in the FIRST robotics competition called RoboNation: CT FIRST. After graduating from the Media Lab, Sam Hockaday and Julia Kwon were hired to produce a special about a Connecticut born and raised political legend. The Last Bipartisan: A Tribute to Peter Kelly is a toast and affectionate roast to a man who counts his friends from both sides of the political aisle. Current projects include the Outdoor Enthusiast and (I)NTERVIEW, a series of conversations with Connecticut’s most recognizable people – literally, “names you know, stories you don’t.”
The CPBN Media finished strongly in the Pepsi Refresh competition with a proposal to help Connecticut schools produce 21st century journalists. Voting was completed on August 31.
