The Hartford Symphony Orchestra kicks off its 2007-2008 season Thursday night at the Bushnell with special guest, cellist Yo Yo Ma. The concert also marks the end of Charles Owens’ tenure as Executive Director of the HSO. Earlier this summer he announced he will leave the HSO to be the President and CEO of the Rochester Philharmonic. During his eight year run he oversaw significant growth of the HSO, the departure of former music director Michael Lankester, and after a two-year international search, the appointment of current music director Edward Cumming. Owens is also credited with bringing the HSO out into the community with a variety of music series.
Owens will leave the HSO at the end of the month to become the President and CEO of the Rochester Philharmonic. The HSO opens their season at the Bushnell with cellist Yo Yo Ma.
