Classes offer firsthand experience of the entire pottery-making cycle. Beginning emphasis is placed on working with one of the fifteen potter's wheels. This winter, warm up with an evening of good food, live music, drinks, and tavern games. Tavern Nights at the Noah Webster House offer a unique night out. Each night offers a different menu or entertainment. Sittings are offered at 6 & 8 p.m. on Fridays and 5:30 and 7:30 p.m. on Saturdays. Reservations are required.
Tickets for each night are $32 per person for the general public and $27 for museum members. The price includes dinner, one complimentary drink, live music, and tavern games. Additional beverages will be available for purchase. Each evening ends with a variety of traditional tavern games. Guests are welcome to try Skittles, Captain's Mistress, Shove Ha'penny, and several other eighteenth century games. A valid ID is required for alcoholic drinks. The Choral Club of Clinton begins rehearsals for its spring concert on Tuesday, March 5 at 6:45 p.m. at The United Methodist Church of Clinton, located at 12 Commerce Street.
Founded in 1926, the chorus welcomes all members of the community (high school age or older) who enjoy singing. Ability to read music is helpful, but not required. Regular Tuesday evening rehearsals from 7:15-9:30 p.m. will continue at Andrews Memorial Town Hall Auditorium in preparation for the spring concert on June 7.
The chorus is directed by Lars Gjerde, who is a doctoral candidate at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York, where he has earned a Master’s Degree and Sacred Music Diploma. Mr. Gjerde received degrees in music and German from Augustana College of Liberal Arts in South Dakota and the Edvard Grieg Academy of Music in Norway. At Augustana, Lars served as the Chapel Organist, sang with the concert and chamber choirs, and accompanied choral and opera ensembles. He was Organist and Choir Director at First Methodist Church in Bergen, Norway. Mr. Gjerde has performed around America and Europe, and he has played on the National Public Radio show Pipedreams!. Since 2010, he has served as Director of Music at Bethesda Lutheran Church in New Haven.
The Spring concert will feature a wide selection of music including spirituals and gospel, Broadway medleys of Les Misérable and The Sound of Music, and pieces by the Gershwin brothers, Gabriel Fauré, and Irving Berlin.
