This event will be an opportunity for people of all ages to obtain information about making their homes and lives "green," from retrofitting their homes with better technology to using products that save the environment. Over 90 vendors and organizations have been invited to participate, including car dealerships that would bring hybrid cars. CT Transit is bringing their hydrogen fuel cell bus. There will be guest speakers and educational workshops on various topics such as the climate crisis, sustainability issues, fossil fuel dependence, alternative energy sources like wind, solar, and fuel cells, energy conservation and energy funding opportunities.

"Green Summit II-Energy Fair" will be held on Saturday, November 8, 2008 from 11 am to 3 pm at Wethersfield High School, 411 Wolcott Hill Rd, Wethersfield. It is being hosted by the Board of Education, the Town Council, Economic Development Improvement Committee (EDIC), Interfaith Green Committee, Recycling Committee, and Citizen's Energy Committee.

An annual walk with Beverly Chomiak, Lecturer in Physics and Environmental Studies. Mamacoke Island is an outstanding laboratory where earth’s mysteries can be explored and unveiled. On this two hour hike, Chomiak will help you understand Mamacoke’s long and complex geological history.

Lucy was everyone's favorite singing partner, but most often she found herself singing as a duo with Shawn Colvin. People envisioned big things for them; in fact, The New York Times said it was "easy to predict stardom for her."

Lucy temporarily left the musical fast track to pursue a doctorate in Psychology and open her own private practice, although she continued to sing. Lucy was often pulled back into the studio by her friends (who now had contracts with record labels), wanting her to sing on their albums. Now, after returning to recording and performing full-time, Kaplansky's voice continues to remain in high demand by her peers.

The Gallery at Lighthouse, Groton is proud to announce the opening of a show of paintings by local artists Gray Park and Guido Garaycochea. Gray is inspired by the changing scenery of Barn Island in Stonington and the surrounding marshes of Connecticut and Rhode Island. The majority of his paintings are done en plein air, where Gray strives to capture the essence of the changing relationship between land and sea. In Guido's paintings, he endeavors to express his own vision of reality. It is not a tangible reality, but one that evokes a particular magic in each human being, one in constant conflict.  His visual aesthetic proposition symbolizes the passing of time in an ethereal atmosphere. Forces constantly fight to meet their point of equilibrium to find the inner, always hidden, other face of the human being that is in a no-time reality.  He tries to create a universality of expression that allows perhaps for the present to meet the future. The Gallery at Lighthouse, Groton is located at 744 Long Hill Road, Groton Shopping Plaza, Groton, CT. 06340.  The Gallery is open Mon - Fri 12 - 5 pm and Sat 12 - 6 pm

1.  Over 65 vendors and organizations will have booths on a variety of topics. Attendees will have the opportunity to learn how to cut their heating/air conditioning costs, and about modern technologies including, solar, wind, geothermal, fuel cells, biodiesel, energy efficient furnaces, alternative heating sources, and different automotive technologes including flex fuel and hybrid cars.  We will have speakers, including Senator John Fonfara, a DEP representative, and Adam Ney from 4Elements Group and Managing Director of AuctorVerno, LLC.

2.  Workshops will take place on a variety of topics, including:  a. "Saving Energy & Saving Money" by Laurel Kohl, Energy Technical Specialist for Education and Training at The Institute for Sustainable Energy at Eastern CT State University.  b. "Green Cleaning" by Sarah Uhl, Environmental Health Coordinator for Clean Water Action.  c.    "What's Toxic, What's Not" by Dr. Gary Ginsberg, Toxicology Expert, Consumer Expert, Radio personality, and author of What’s Toxic, What’s Not.   d.  “Solar PhotoVoltaic Systems”, and “CT Clean Energy Fund Rebate and CT Solar Leasing Programs” by Gordon Schies.    e. Wethersfield Board of Education will have a workshop on the proposed renovations to the high school and Hamner elementary school.

3.  Wethersfield school students will do the following: a. High School Technology Department will have a booth focusing on the different types of transportation, including hybrid, electric, etc. b. High School Green Eagles will have a booth on recycling CFL's and electronics. c. Middle School Technology Department will have a booth on solar cars. d. Summer school programs, 2007 “Growing Up Green” (grades 4-10) will have a booth on what they learned about going green. e. Architect will have a booth on proposed renovations of Hamner School and the High School, where they plan to incorporate green technology. Tours of the high school will be given.

4.  Door prize giveaways will take place throughout the day, the top prize so far being 100 gallons of free heating oil from Citizen’s Oil Co-Op.

5.  PROSHRED will be onsite to shred up to 4 boxes of personal documents per person.  

6.  TwigTek will be onsite to collect old cell phones, MP3 players, external hard drives, and digital cameras for  recycling.  

7. CT Transit will be there with their hydrogen fuel cell bus and explain how the technology works.  

8.  Lynch Toyota is bringing a Prius and a Camry hybrid and Parsons Chevrolet is bringing a Malibu and Tahoe hybrid for viewing and possible purchase.

Woodbury painter Matt Wood returns to nature’s essence
in “Pentimento” exhibition at Good News Cafe & Gallery

Woodbury artist Matt Wood returns to the essence of the subjects he paints from the natural world in his new exhibition titled “Pentimento,” showing through Jan. 5, 2009, at the Good News Cafe and Gallery, 694 Main Street South, Woodbury.

A native of southern California, Wood began his artistic odyssey with painting studies at the University of Iowa influenced by the work of Mauricio Lasansky. Wood notes that his own Polish and Russian heritage, and his marriage to Polish native Joanna Czaderna, have established a natural affinity for Lasansky’s passionate approach to the creative process that seeks to use art as a means to raise personal awareness.

The Connecticut Plein Air Painters Society presents its annual members exhibition at Hartford Fine Art, 80 Pitkin Street, East Hartford, beginning with the opening reception and awards presentation on Friday November 7, 2008 from 6-8 pm. This year's juror is David Dunlop, well-known to CPTV viewers for his thirteen-episode series Landscapes Through Time With David Dunlop, which debuted this year to rave reviews. His careful selection of 72 works in oil, watercolor, pastel and acrylic makes this the most exciting show ever for this talented group of artists. The public is cordially invited to the opening reception to share insights and a glass of wine with many member artists.
