New England’s largest Fair Trade marketplace will be held November 6-9, 2008, at Mercy Center at Madison.  The 3rd Annual Fair Earth Bazaar features thousands of unique, beautiful and reasonably priced items--jewelry, accessories, home goods, and more from over 60 vendors worldwide. 

Handcrafted by artisans in dozens of developing nations in Africa, the Pacific Rim, Asia, the Middle East, and Central and South America, all items on sale at the Fair Earth Bazaar will be Fair Trade, ensuring that workers enjoy fair wages and fair working conditions. 

Special Preview Night Thursday, November 6 is open to the public for the first time.  All items on sale will be Fair Trade.  There will be live entertainment and a café.  Shopping with a conscience.

A historic roundtable discussion, “Three Movements - One Future: Challenges facing American Jews,” will bring together three major leaders of the Orthodox, Conservative and Reform movements in an unprecedented public dialogue. The participants are Rabbi Dr. David Ellenson, President of Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion; Richard Joel, President of Yeshiva University, and Dr. Arnold Eisen, Chancellor of The Jewish Theological Seminary. 

This panel discussion will occur two days after the election of the new President of the United States. Americans are facing somber spiritual and economic challenges and continuing turbulence in the Middle East. There is no greater time for American Jews and all Americans to seek common ground and unity. Rabbi Joshua Hammerman of Temple Beth El will moderate the conversation.

Woodbury painter Matt Wood returns to nature’s essence
in “Pentimento” exhibition at Good News Cafe & Gallery

Woodbury artist Matt Wood returns to the essence of the subjects he paints from the natural world in his new exhibition titled “Pentimento,” showing through Jan. 5, 2009, at the Good News Cafe and Gallery, 694 Main Street South, Woodbury.

A native of southern California, Wood began his artistic odyssey with painting studies at the University of Iowa influenced by the work of Mauricio Lasansky. Wood notes that his own Polish and Russian heritage, and his marriage to Polish native Joanna Czaderna, have established a natural affinity for Lasansky’s passionate approach to the creative process that seeks to use art as a means to raise personal awareness.
