Another Republican challenger has emerged this week in the already crowded race to unseat US Senator Chris Dodd in 2010.

Peter Schiff, a financial expert and broker from Weston in Fairfield County announced on MSNBC that he will run for the US Senate

"The main reason we need to get rid of Chris Dodd is he represents all that's wrong with Congress. He's the poster boy for the economic crisis not only from the past but the crisis we're going to go through over next few years if someone doesn't go to Washington and put a stop to these destructive policies."

Money for his campaign began pouring in 6 months ago after Schiff supporters launched a grassroots effort to urge him to run for office.  So far he has more than one million dollars in his campaign war chest.

He's the fifth Republican to announce he'll run.  Also this week, Linda McMahon--co founder and former CEO of World Wrestling Entertainment announced her candidacy.  Former Congressman Rob Simmons, state Senator Sam Caligiuri and former ambassador Tom Foley are also running.  Of the five GOP candidates, Simmons is in the lead ---and the latest Quinnipiac University poll shows Simmons leading Senator Dodd by 5 points.
