New Haven firefighters at the center of the controversial discrimination case say they feel vindicated by today’s Supreme Court ruling.
Standing on the steps of US District Court in New Haven, firefighter Frank Ricci praised the US Supreme Court’s ruling affirming that he’d been unfairly denied a promotion because of race. He saluted the other firefighters who’d joined the lawsuit not knowing if they qualified for promotion. "Its phenomal that everybody stepped forward and took this position ‘cause the exams were valid. And if you work hard you can succeed in America."
New Haven mayor John DeStefano said he wasn’t surprised by the ruling, and described it as part of a continuing erosion of civil rights laws by the Supreme Court.
