Vice-Chancellors and University Presidents from around the world gather at Yale University today. They will discuss ways higher education can work with the United Nations to help to solve global problems. WNPR’s Diane Orson reports.

The fourth annual Global Colloquium of University Presidents will bring together education leaders from China, Singapore, South Africa, Turkey, Mexico, the U.K. and other nations. The conference focuses on a different theme each year.  This year, university leaders will discuss “The Roles of Science in Meeting Global Challenges”. They’ll  explore ways to promote international collaboration in scientific and technical research.  Its the first time the event is being held in New Haven.

Ban Ki-Moon, Secretary General of the United Nations will chair the meeting  - but the Yale Daily News reports that due to the catastrophic earthquake in Haiti, he’ll leave early.  The Colloquium runs through Friday.
