Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro is urging the Senate to require health insurance companies to provide clear information about what’s in their policies. WNPR’s Diane Orson reports.
As debate continues on health care reform, Representative Rosa DeLauro is calling on her colleagues in the Senate to incorporate provisions from the House bill that require private insurance transparency. She says insurers should disclose specific services they cover, before consumers sign on the dotted line.
"The fact is that countless Americans buy coverage that they thought was comprehensive only to realize that it had huge gaps once they actually get sick."
And she wants to give state and federal regulators the authority to oversee and enforce rules protecting consumers from health insurance industry abuse. Dozens of health care experts have sent letters to Senate Finance leaders urging that the transparency provisions be included in the health reform bill.
