Budget Technicality May Cripple State Commission on the Status of Women

In an effort to reduce the state budget deficit last year, Governor Jodi Rell proposed eliminating many state commissions, including the Permanent Commission on the Status of Women. The Democratic controlled general assembly managed to keep the commissions intact, but a meeting today of the Financial Advisory Committee, which is run by the Governors’ budget office may cause the Commission to seriously scramble to stay afloat. Teresa Younger, Executive Director of the Permanent Commission on the Status of Women spoke with Ray Hardman this morning on Morning Edition.
