Police in Storrs have made arrests in the murder of University of Connecticut football player Jasper Howard. WNPR's John Dankosky reports.

John William Lomax, a 21-year old from Bloomfield, Connecticut was charged with murder, and held on 2 million-dollars bond.  Another man, 21-year old Jamal Todd was charged with reckless endangerment for pulling a fire alarm at an on-campus dance, which sparked the fight. 20-year old Hakim Muhammad was also charged with conspiracy to commit assault.

Lomax's attorney, Deron Freeman, says his client - who is not a student - was there when Howard was killed.

"Yeah, he was there, he did acknowledge being there, he acknowledged witnessing an altercation between some other individuals, and attempting to break that fight up, but he maintains that had nothing to do with the murder, and did not see the stabbing whatsoever."

Howard was stabbed to death near the student union on October 18th, just hours after starring for the Huskies in a victory over Louisville. Howard's murder was the third involving a Connecticut college student in the last six months. It follows killings at Wesleyan and Yale Universities.
