Aetna is the latest health insurer to indicate that it may bid to provide services to the US military under the Tricare program.
Hartford based Aetna says it has convened a panel of former military officers to advise on such a bid.
More than nine million service members, retirees and military families are eligible for coverage under Tricare. The program is expected to issue a request for proposals for new contracts later this summer.
Susan Peters, president of Aetna’s government health plans says Tricare would be a natural fit for the company.
